As a not-for-profit society, 2010 Legacies Now is creating lasting legacies around the province leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Spirit of BC®
Supported by the Province of British Columbia, Spirit of BC® is a province-wide initiative promoting community innovation, pride and excellence, and involving British Columbians in the opportunities arising from the 2010 Winter Games.
Spirit of BC Week
Held in February, Spirit of BC Week is an annual celebration of British Columbia and its unique communities.
Spirit of BC’s Altitude Youth Experience
Spirit of BC’s Altitude Youth Experience is a program that provides opportunities for B.C. youth to gain leadership skills and make a difference in their community.
VolWeb.ca™
VolWeb.ca™ is a free volunteer recruitment website designed to connect volunteers with events in their community, from local festivals and fundraisers to international sport events and conferences.
Community Sport Tourism Workshops
Presented by Tourism BC and 2010 Legacies Now, and with support from the Province of B.C., these workshops share how the sport and tourism industries can work together to ensure sport events are a success for the entire community.
B.C. Sport Tourism Events Marketplace
Presented by the Province of B.C., Tourism BC and 2010 Legacies Now, the B.C. Sport Tourism Events Marketplace offers a business-to-business opportunity for community tourism industry representatives and provincial sport organizations to explore sport event hosting opportunities.
B.C. Sport Tourism Network
The B.C. Sport Tourism Network, created in partnership with Tourism BC and with support from the Province of B.C., facilitates interaction and sharing of knowledge between members of B.C.’s sport tourism community.
Hosting BC™
Hosting BC™ provides grants to organizations throughout British Columbia to host national and international sport events at the senior, junior and university levels.
British Columbia Sport Event Hosting and Resort Guide
The B.C. Sport Event Hosting and Resort Guide is a website showcasing B.C.’s readiness to host sport events. The guide, a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts and Tourism BC, is at www.HostingBC.ca.
Pre-Games Training and Team Hosting
This province-wide program, being developed with the Province of B.C., Tourism BC, and the B.C. Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Secretariat, will take a coordinated approach to attracting teams to B.C. for pre-Games training.
2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour
The 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour, presented by Bell and the Province of B.C., will travel throughout the province to inspire British Columbians to create their own legacies leading up to 2010 and beyond.
RBC 2010 Legacies Now Speaker Series
Sponsored by RBC, CTV, the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers, and the Province of British Columbia, the RBC 2010 Legacies Now Speaker Series enables B.C. communities and businesses to learn from international experts in the Olympic and Paralympic Games industry.
Growing Champions™
Growing Champions™, a partnership between 2010 Legacies Now, Sport BC, PacificSport, BC Athlete Voice and the Province of British Columbia, is a financial assistance program connecting high-performance B.C. athletes with local businesses.
Action Schools! BC™
Action Schools! BC™ is a unique model for promoting physical activity and healthy eating in B.C. elementary and middle schools. A part of ActNow BC, the program offers teaching resources and equipment to participating schools.
20% Challenge
The 20% Challenge encourages British Columbians to increase their physical activity levels by 20 per cent by 2010. Visit www.ActNowBC.ca.
B.C. Sport Participation Program
Funded by the federal and provincial governments, the B.C. Sport Participation Program has invested over $1.8 million in provincial and multi-sport organizations to increase participation in sport and recreation in B.C. communities.
Game Plan BC
Game Plan BC, a partnership with PacificSport with support from the Province of B.C.,
assists B.C.’s high-performance winter athletes in 18 Olympic and Paralympic sports with funding for coaching, cross-training, equipment and travel.
Spirit of 2010 Hockey Tournament
Supported by the Province of B.C., 2010 Legacies Now, the B.C. Minor Hockey Association and the Vancouver Canucks, the Spirit of 2010 Hockey Tournament is a province-wide celebration of healthy living, amateur sport and community spirit.
SportFitTM
SportFitTM, supported by Sport Canada, the Province of B.C. and CTV, is a fun, easy-to-use, interactive program to get children and youth interested in physical activity by discovering new sports.
Creative Communities
Creative Communities helps local governments to identify strengths and challenges in their arts and cultural sector and incorporate cultural planning into their visions for the future.
Arts Build Communities
The Arts Build Communities program helps communities learn how to plan arts and cultural celebrations to encourage broad participation in creative activities.
Arts Partners in Creative Development
Arts Partners in Creative Development (APCD) is a contribution fund to enable B.C. arts and cultural organizations to create artistic works that achieve a high level of excellence. APCD is a partnership of the Province of B.C., City of Vancouver, Canada Council for the Arts, Vancouver Foundation, VANOC and 2010 Legacies Now.
Catalyst and Innovations
Catalyst helps arts, cultural and heritage organizations enhance their artistic and administrative strengths, while Innovations helps these groups create new opportunities for community members to engage in arts and cultural activities.
Explorations
2010 Legacies Now and the Ministry of Education have sent more than 13,000 B.C. students to summer camps focusing on arts and/or sport and recreation.
Literacy Now Communities
The Literacy Now Communities program, supported by the Province of British Columbia, guides B.C. communities through a planning process to address local literacy needs.
LEAP BCTM
LEAP BCTM provides children from birth to age five with a strong foundation in literacy, physical activity and healthy eating, through fun activities and play. The program, a partnership with the Province of B.C. and the University of Victoria, offers free resources for families, and free resources and training for early learning practitioners.
Parents as Literacy Supporters (PALS)
Supported by the Province of B.C., PALS is a highly successful, culturally-responsive family literacy program that helps family members and caregivers support the literacy development of preschool- and kindergarten-aged children.
Immigrant Parents as Literacy Supporters (Immigrant PALS)
Immigrant PALS is a three-year pilot program that builds on the success of PALS to help families new to British Columbia. Immigrant PALS is supported by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
Virtual Voices Village
Virtual Voices Village, a partnership of 2010 Legacies Now, 3M, SET-BC and the Province of B.C., provides opportunities for B.C. students with disabilities to develop writing and journalism skills by interviewing athletes and other successful role models, working with mentors in the print and broadcast journalism community, and posting their work online at www.vvvillage.org.
Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund
Administered by 2010 Legacies Now, the Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund has three grant programs to support physical activity, sport and recreation for British Columbia’s Aboriginal athletes, youth and community organizations.
Aboriginal Sport Gallery
Opening in June 2008, the Aboriginal Sport Gallery will recognize the contributions Aboriginal peoples have made to the sport heritage of British Columbia. The gallery is a partnership with the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, VANOC, the Province of B.C., Four Host First Nations, and Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Association of B.C.
Chill
Sponsored by Bell and with support from the Province of B.C. and numerous other partners, Chill is a snowboarding program for inner-city youth in Vancouver and Prince George.
Measuring Up
Supported by the Province of B.C., the Measuring Up Accessibility and Inclusion Fund distributes grants to communities to support projects improving how people with disabilities can actively participate and contribute in their communities.
Accessible Tourism Strategy
2010 Legacies Now is working with the Province of B.C., Tourism BC and other tourism partners to help make B.C. a premier travel destination for people with disabilities. Tourism businesses can participate in an assessment to determine how accessible they are for people with disabilities, and then receive recommendations for improvements.
